PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The plant buyer is accountable for M & S inventory management, materials planning, purchase order entry and supplier payments. The incumbent will have thorough knowledge of materials replenishment planning. He/she will support in the development and implementation of sourcing projects to best satisfy the needs of the customer, operations and finance. He/she is responsible for the execution of processes to ensure the sourcing function is meeting all plant operational requirements, sustaining Sarbanes Oxley compliance, driving productivity through sourcing initiatives, and leading corporate sourcing directives.The buyer has the direct control of material inflow and understanding of supplier limitations.  The buyer will manage spend as well as handle the raw material, service and capital purchase orders. 

REPORTS TO:   This position reports to Sr. Supply Chain & Sourcing Leader.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

1.Living the safety stand and adhering to safety responsibilities

  • Ensures a safety focus in all sourcing processes and builds a culture where safety is the first priority
  • Implements corporate sourcing programs in a safe manner and manages through a focus on safety

2.Knowing our Customers

  • Interfaces with internal customers to ensure total satisfaction
  • Develops, implements and manages sourcing procedures and processes to ensure the plant receives the right materials in the right quantity at the right time
  • Manages SOX compliant processes that meet internal customers’ needs and fitness for use

3.Directing Operations

  • Understands and ensures that all plant sourcing processes are complying with Sarbanes Oxley requirements
  • Obtains production schedule from the planning team; forecasts consumption and plans orders accordingly
  • Ensures no production stock outs; communicates risk and action plans as needed
  • Develops sources of supply for materials & parts where vendors and suppliers are inadequate
  • Negotiates optimal processes and contracts for materials and services with suppliers and vendors
  • Continuously improves sourcing processes by leveraging best practices and eliminating waste
  • Manages working capital performance through daily processes and Tools & Materials Team
  • Monitors and takes actions to minimize slow moving and obsolete inventory & inventory losses
  • Provides back-up coverage for other plant buyers as directed
  • Ensures proper back-up coverage for own responsibilities through standard work document and work instructions

4.Leading and Developing Talent

  • Identifies training and development needs of employees and works with others to meet those needs with respect to sourcing processes
  • Leads by example to increase enrollment and engagement in sourcing processes, initiatives and requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of sourcing/purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Purchasing, Logistics or related field preferred
  • Experience using SAP

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Understanding of and ability to work within Sarbanes Oxley Control
  • Competent in SAP, MRP and Microsoft Office
