The S&T Engineer will be part of the Composite Business Unit, Fabrics & Specialty Product leadership team based in the Chambéry Science and Technology (S&T) Center.  

The job holder will manage projects relative to Wind market/sustainable Glass solution and to develop the science around Fabrics, thermoplastic resin and recycling used for the wind industry.

His/her capability will be to :

  • The composites technologies relatives to wind reinforcement product, especially infusion
  • The composite technologies relative to preforming process
  • Glass Fiber and Carbon Fiber reinforcement

This position reports to the Chambéry International S&T andis located in Chambéry, with some national/ international travels.

Responsibilities, Scope and Contributions

Responsibility 1: Live the Safety Stand of Owens Corning and adhere to the safety responsibilities

  • Embrace company policies and procedures for documenting hazards, near misses and incidents
  • Implement a personal safety action plan
  • Participate actively to the BBS


  • Safety metrics: BBS, RIR, First Aids, Near Misses, SAFE and Critical 6
  • Up to date SOP and job hazard analysis
  • Yearly prevention action plan defined and executed (PAP)

Responsibility 2: Lead key projects on wind composite

  • Capability to lead projects relative to Wind market in a multi-disciplinary environment team:
      • Lead product development, propose idea and solution valuable for our customers
      • Lead process development propose idea and process solution valuable for our customers
      • Lead project ideation, evaluation, prioritization, risk and change management
      • Plans and drives the daily project work – organizes and monitors the defined scope and requirements
  • Effectively manages Relationships & Communication with stakeholders at all levels of the organization to communicate on progress & hurdles & Risks, influence decision making and deliver on commitments.
  • Customer driven: focus on obtaining results and have impact on decision and project
  • Capability to Participate to Fabrics project relative to wind market
  • Implement testing method, practical work, enabling understanding of product performance, faster development, and value quantification.


  • Technical reports issued for all product development, new testing equipment implementation, recycling technologies 
  • # of project/testing method developed

Responsibility 3: Participate to wind innovation roadmap and delivering promises

  • Capability to connect internally (GRS Leadership, Fabrics proto-typing, Modelization,  Techno-marketing , Strategic Marketing ,  Product management ,Fabrics Operations , Fabrics process development) and externally with multi-disciplinary teams (Partners, Suppliers Customers University)
  • Capability to coordinate efforts of multidisciplinary teams and project
  • Strategic thinking: understand, support and extend long term view of wind innovation
  • Develop and maintain our science knowledge in Fabrics and sustainable Glass solution and in composite

Metrics: # bibliography, patent survey/analysis

Responsibility 4: Develop strong technical Interaction with the OC Product leadership group, Fabrics Techno-Marketing group and with Key customers, built and maintain a network of academic and Industry expert

  • Develop interaction with teams of Innovation, Techno-Marketing, Business and Fabrics Operations group  
  • Participate to conference and technical show on market and applications that we serve
  • Connect to the resin supplier and equipment that used by our customer
  • Connect with customers
  • Technical survey of new technology, networking with key laboratories and academic research

Job requirements

Minimum Qualification & Experience / Knowledge requirements

  • The minimum educational background is PhD in materials sciences and or Chemistry
  • Experience in materials sciences/composites (mini 6 month)
  • Experience in materials performance analysis especially mechanics will be appreciated
  • Experience in Glass and/or textile will be appreciated
