Internship context and expectations

The Glass Reinforcement S&T platform of Owens Corning Composites Europe center (Chambery based) is offering to internal and external customers a wide panel modeling solutions (design/optimizations) for composite applications. To support the customers, an accurate prediction of composite performance is necessary. Therefore, development of accurate models for glass fiber reinforced plastic (GFRP) is a critical step to give tailored recommendation to customer on part designs and applications

Assignments for this position (Advanced Modeling intern) include: 

• Conduct research and development work using modeling tools in current and future fiber reinforced composite solutions. 
• Understand latest modeling tools and make improvements to current resources 
• Evaluate and develop new modeling codes/tools at micromechanics, laminate, and part-level scales for composites applications 
• Report writing + internal presentation (in English) on the delivery work

Selection Criteria 
• Actively pursuing a M.S. or engineering degree in Materials Science & Engineering; Mechanical Engineering; Chemical Engineering; or related science/engineering field 
• Good level of knowledge in mechanics FRP composite. 
• Good level of knowledge with standard composite testing procedures (tensile-compression-flexural, fatigue …)   and composites manufacturing process is a plus (Infusion, SMC …)
• Experience in one of the following modeling/simulation techniques – micromechanics, laminate design, Finite Element Analysis (Abaqus preferred), Micromechanics (Digimat) or process modeling (Moldex3D or Moldflow). 
• Experience with scripting languages (Matlab, Python ….)
• Team player and ability to work on multiple projects in multicultural environment in collaboration with colleagues and other teams
• Accountable, reliable person and efficient in the work delivery
• Good communication skills in English and French (written and oral) 

Duration: 6-month internship. 
Starting date: Feb or Mar 2023
