Regional Safety Leader

A Regional SafetyLeader provides leadership, coaching, and safety technical expertise for the Insulation business plus strategic guidance and operational support to all assigned sites. Successful leaders in this role will be highly motivated self-starters who can partner with the EHS Leadership Team, Operations Directors, and Plant Teams to set EHS strategy and balance tactical execution against an overall strategic plan. The Regional Safety Leader must have proven experience motivating and interacting with hourly employees, aligning and engaging leaders, verifying hazard controls, recognizing and reducing risk, and building talent. Facilities will range in size, complexity, and maturity. Regional Safety Leaders must be competent in leading high-performing safety teams as well as elevating the performance and skills of high-touch, high-need sites. There is flexibilty of primary work location to include: Insulation manufacturing sites in the US, and resident offices in the US
Reports to: Global EHS Director, Insulation Operations
Span of Control: Typically, 5-10 manufacturing sites of varying size and complexity across multiple countries and/or world regions. Total employee populations of 1000 to 1500.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and Execute Insulation Safety Strategy and Action Plans
Regional Safety Leaders are primarily responsible for assessing the controls, programs, and risks for each site under their responsibility. Once the initial assessment is complete for each site (and across the network), data-driven gap analyses, prioritized action plans, and resource balancing are expected. The successful Regional Safety Leader will collaborate with other leaders within Insulation to communicate, enable, and fulfill the Safety Action Plans.
- Use TPM methodologies to drive to Zero Injuries. Focus all leaders and safety team on eliminating waste and focusing on critical path activities that will deliver the results required to meet Safety Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and Key Activity Indicators (KAI), including: Recordable Incidence Rates (RIR), SIF Potential Incidents, SIF standards execution, Risk Profile reduction, and Safety Management System effectiveness.
- Partner with Business Segment and Plant teams to establish Safety strategy and action plans.
- Engage our people in planning, deploying, and executing against a careful, forward-looking safety plan.
Verify Hazard Controls and Manage Risk
Regional Safety Leaders will drive operational excellence by extensive use of hands-on verification of the mechanisms, procedures, systems, and activities used to control employee interaction with hazards. The Regional Safety Leader will provide technical guidance and support to increase the skills and effectiveness of both hourly and salaried leaders in hazard identification and risk management techniques.
- Eliminate the potential for SIF injuries, reduce the severity and potential for employee injuries, and build controls to effectively manage risk
- Verify hazard controls and risk reduction strategies at each site
- Direct resources to achieve maximum short-term results while supporting the long-term strategy and vision
- Review gap closure plans (SIF and Foundations assessments) and manage timelines and outcomes
- Provide technical support and leadership around the development of Safety standards
Talent Development
Regional Safety Leaders are functional leaders of safety professionals throughout the network. This role, in collaboration with the Site Leaders, will manage the growth and development plans for each safety professional, provide career guidance and coaching. These leaders will constantly assess and elevate the overall technical strength of safety professionals within Insulation.
- Lead efforts in assigned facilities to engage hourly employees in the safety process. Provide guidance to sites to elevate employee ownership, increase the effectiveness of safety committees, and create avenues of communication and feedback.
- Serve as a coach and expert resource to the plant leaders, safety leaders and NLT’s on safety, communications and programs related to EH&S.
- Provide technical and professional guidance on growth and development plans for each safety team member in assigned sites.
- Coach and mentor early-career safety professionals and development candidates
- Conduct or take part in semi-annual performance reviews with safety leaders in assigned locations
- Collaborate with Site leaders and Human Resource professionals to accelerate performance of safety leaders and team members to contribute to the overall strategy and specific critical outcomes for the business.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree required (occupational safety, industrial hygiene, engineering, science or equivalent preferred)
- 7 years of progressive manufacturing safety experience required
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Professional certification preferred (CSP, CIH, etc.)
- Experience implementing or managing a strong safety culture, in a matrix & multi-site environment
- Demonstrated success in coaching and leading teams
- Managing and delivering results through projects and initiatives
- Impactful experience in a Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) environment, including active participation as member of EHS Pillar team.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Strong working knowledge of environmental, health, and safety compliance law and industrial hygiene
- Ability to identify hazards, critical process, and system needs and implement appropriate action plans
- Adept at developing and delivering safety training
- Ability to motivate and inspire others at all levels of the organization
- Ability to initiate and lead cross-functional teams and management / union committees to achieve objectives
- Agent of change – create momentum for new initiatives while understanding the many different perspectives in the plant; effectively gain support across the organization as needed
