GlassMetal Services supplies precision precious metals parts to internal operations of Owens Corning and to external glass producers.  Precise accounting and management of customers’ inventories and orders are essential to limiting Owens Corning’s liability as they relate to precious metals.  To be successful, the successful candidate must have exceptional analytical, communications and people skills and the initiative to take action.  Facilitating change and building partnerships with multiple functions are critical to maximizing the efficient usage of OC’s precious metal assets within both alloy manufacturing and glass production.  This position reports to the Plant Controller and operates as an extension of the Global Metals Control Leader Role by being accountable for managing the global coordination of alloy supply to demand.  From a plant perspective, this position manages and leads the entire inventory process for the facility as a hands-on leader.  Basic understanding of governmental regulations for customs imports and exports is critical to protect OC from fines, seizures of shipments by government officials, and insurance of OC’s liability to external customers.  Consistent with the company’s stance on safety, this position is charged with the responsibilities of resolving safety concerns specific to the Inventory & Logistics team. 

Responsibilities

  • Work safely.  Assist others in safe work behaviors and identifying accidents waiting to happen.
  • Manages and resolves safety issues related to the Inventory & Logistics Operations
  • Maintain up to date knowledge and requirements for OC one employee one lock program and certifies Inventory & Logistics Team
  • Direct supervision for Concord’s Inventory & Logistics Operations with four primary direct reports
  • Determines weekly workloads and schedules shift assignments accordingly
  • Manage and lead monthly mandatory Saturday metals inventories until completed, no set end time
  • Monthly inventory requires a very detailed reconciliation of production losses, inventory by metals composition and production site
  • Control point for monitoring and reporting of alloy pool quality and process to remove out of spec metal or bring into compliance
  • Oversight management/coordination of daily pool sampling and shipments to external vendor for analysis
  • Reviews, manages and resolves daily metal issues on the production floor.
  • Work with Inventory Accuracy Team to identify deficiencies and train operators on production floor as needed to obtain transactional precision
  • Control point for acceptance and release of all alloy orders for external customers
  • Process owner for weekly supply & demand forecast metal requirements and coordinating with Global Metals Control Leader for required movements
  • Generates weekly supply & demand analysis of internal & external order requirements for management reporting and decision making on how OC contracts support metal to external customers
  • Maintains daily/weekly analysis of strategic external customer process metal requirements for month end billing of leases
  • Oversees document preparation of export shipments
  • Manage in-transit file of shipments and receipts and analyze data to flag delays
  • Monitor slow moving items in cleaning and inspection and follow-up with area leaders to ensure timely processing for customer’s account
  • Prepares and/or oversees special shipments (i.e. refining lots to vendors, samples, recoverable materials) to vendors
  • Reconcile off-site inventories
  • Supervise and approve for distribution the preparation, verification of all Customer Status Reports
  • Provide plant analytics as needed
  • Maintain effective partnership with plant operations
  • Leads process improvement for all areas of accountability
  • Places strong emphasis on leading and developing talent
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively delegate key business activities
  • Anticipates supply risks and develops contingency options
  • Develops short-term scenario models and analysis to support business planning and mitigate risks
  • Collaborates with global supply chain leader to ensure supply plans align to global business demands

Job Requirements

Experience & Education

  • Minimum of 5 years demonstrated work experience and proven leadership in operations, materials management, supply chain, sourcing, or related field
  • Bachelor’s degree required, supply chain management or related field
  • Working knowledge with MS Office
  • Strong proficiency in Excel preferred
  • SAP/BI experience a plus
