The Senior Engineer is accountable for the research and development of new glass nonwoven processes and manufacturing platforms that deliver value to our customers.  This role is critical to success in expanding our business reach and accelerating our growth strategies.  The senior engineer role is a member of the North American Nonwoven Science and Technology organization and this role will span defining technology needs, solution development in the lab and pilot scale, as well as support and implementation at the plant manufacturing level.  This position is located at the Granville, OH, Science and Technology campus.

Reports to:  North American Nonwovens Technology R&D Leader


Commitment to Safety

  • Develop and implement a personal safety action plan
  • Actively participate in team safety meetings, learning team events, and training
  • Demonstrate a daily commitment to the safety of the team by promoting safety awareness and achieving full compliance with all Owens Corning standards.

New Process Development

  • Develop and implement new manufacturing technology platforms, both process and machinery, at lab and pilot scale through to plant level
  • Hold a deep understanding of current manufacturing processes, assets, and capabilities
  • Monitor and understand commercially available process technology landscape, new innovations, and measurement systems
  • Work closely with internal and external partners to deliver solutions
  • Lead development projects utilizing the Stage-Gate process
  • Partner with Intellectual Property to develop strategy and control points for our technology

Process Improvement

  • Work with manufacturing engineers and operations staff on existing process improvements, optimization, upgrades, and qualifications
  • Support resolution of product or process challenges with innovative ideas and solutions
  • Collaborate with scientists and manufacturing engineers to improve productivity and lower costs
  • Forms close working relationships with peers at plant and R&D locations in North America and Europe


  • Ensure organization and communication when working with peers and team members
  • Collaborate with plant, process excellence, capital delivery and operations teams
  • Utilize project management tools for well-structured project execution
  • Thoroughly document work in technical reports and memos
  • Inspire and lead team members in projects to foster team work despite no direct people leadership



  • BS in Engineering or related field
  • 5 years of experience of process/manufacturing engineering
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally at 30%


  • Background in nonwoven technologies
  • Background in coating science and application technologies
  • Six Sigma certification
  • Process modeling, CAD experience


  • Fluent in English
  • Proficient with statistical analysis and software
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Sound communication and technical documentation skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with a diverse team
  • Self-starter who works with minimal supervision and balances multiple projects
  • Accepts responsibility for project outcomes and is unafraid of owning the results of the project team
  • Must be able to influence and lead across the entire organization while holding little formal authority
  • Works well under pressure of a changing and fast paced environment
