JOB TITLE: Forming Operator

PRIMARY PURPOSE

This job requires self-direction, working alone or in small teams with little direct supervision. The Forming Operator will develop skills and knowledge within the Forming Operator classification. The Forming Operator will participate in formal and informal training situations related to the Forming Operator classification. The Forming Operator will perform various tasks within the classification independently to the extent of the developed skills. This role is a permanent temporary position for vacation relief purposes.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Fulfill requirements of the department programs to the degree required of the Forming Operator classification
  • Participate in the safety and good housekeeping programs as established within the plant
  • Work in two specific areas within the classification on a daily basis: one day predominately in Packaging area supporting the Bushing level & one day on the Bushing level supporting the Packaging area
  • Perform work in the packaging area consisting of: Package Setup, Final Packaging, Quality Testing/Labeling, Proper Product Identification and placement of finished material in the Warehouse
  • Responsible for packaging integrity and quality checks on each packaging order
  • Monitor correct product weights and ensure that they are maintained throughout the shift
  • Handle startup and shut down duties pertaining to packaging equipment at the beginning and end of each shift
  • Maintain quality checks and ensure proper product identification and weight
  • Maintain 100% inspection of all material
  • Report any problems to appropriate personnel and carry out emergency procedures
  • Operate a fork lift and other related material handling machinery
  • Bushing level duties include managing the operation of two Wet Chop Machines ensuring safe operation at all times
  • Managing 10 bushings of glass fibers that feed Wet Chop Machines
  • Ensure each Wet Chop machine is in good working condition and works in accordance to regulations set by the Company
  • Handing down glass fibers in a timely established fashion after a positional break out
  • Assist in troubleshooting positional issues related to reliability
  • Perform other related duties consistent with the nature of the job as directed by Supervision and Management

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalency
  • 1-3 years of experience working in an industrial or manufacturing environment
  •  Participation and successful qualification in a workplace skill assessment administered by Owens Corning and Conestoga College as a condition of employment

  • Ability to think under pressure and make quick decisions
  • Ability to work well in a team and independently  
  • Good attention to detail
  • Basic mechanical knowledge
  • Meet team expectations such as reliability, teamwork, and process improvement
  • Maintain and continuously improve productivity, quality and safety
