PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Maintenance Supervisor will work with maintenance leadership, operations, and engineering to develop both short-term and long-term maintenance strategies to ensure the safety, reliability, and performance of all plant equipment. The successful candidate will meet these objectives by providing leadership, coaching and direction to the mechanical and electrical trade teams. The Maintenance Supervisor is essential to the success of the facility through the planning and coordination of the   preventative maintenance programs as well as leading the tactical response and troubleshooting of unplanned upset conditions.

Type: Full-time

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7 am to 3 pm

Reports to: Maintenance Leader

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Live and Lead with Safety First

  • Demonstrate a commitment to employee health and safety, particularly through a commitment to zero injuries, awareness of hazards, and a strong understanding of legislative requirements in all aspects of the operation
  • Ensuring equipment operates in a safe and expected manner for all operators will be a key deliverable
  • Working with Supervisors, Engineers and Employees in responding to safety concerns or improvement activity
  • Ensure teams are assessing and controlling potential hazards and risk through effective pre-task planning
  • Lead and administer the facility loss prevention programs

Deliver on Operating Efficiency 

  • Actively support a “ZERO breakdown” culture within the facility
  • Keep plant operational and leadership team fully apprised of investments and/or resources required to ensure all utility and equipment/systems are operating in optimal condition
  • Work with Predictive Maintenance assets (internal and external) to eliminate failures that can be predicted utilizing predictive testing data analysis, infrared thermography, oil analysis, and ultrasonic leak detection equipment
  • Coordinate the activity of the maintenance group as well as contractors in the planning and execution of the monthly shutdown activities in our main production line.
  • Train trades and operators on key inspection, cleaning, and lubrication practices required on all critical utility and mechanical equipment
  • Work with different vendors to ensure our purchased equipment, storeroom parts, and contracted labour contracts places our facility in the most cost-competitive situation
  • Develops engineering solutions to repetitive failures and all other problems that adversely affect plant operations, quality, and/or safety goals by usage of methodical problem-solving techniques.
  • Identifying and requesting capital funding for equipment, modifications, etc.

  • Demonstrate good listening skills to ensure that concerns, suggestions, questions, and problems of direct reports are understood and adequately addressed in a timely manner
  • Creation and advancement of training activities for all maintenance team members
  • Be able to support team after-hours on troubleshooting equipment/process issues that require additional expertise or knowledge.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Technical background with trade certification, or other applicable post-secondary program
  • 7 - 10 years manufacturing experience in a maintenance, electrical, and/or reliability role
  • People leadership/supervisory experience
  • Experience with Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) methodology and implementation and/or Lean certification preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to organize and lead multi-functional teams to achieve plant objectives
  • Utilizing data and data collection systems, and lean methodology for problem-solving and decision-making to eliminate manufacturing losses and unnecessary costs
  • Able to create and implement strategic operations plans
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate to all levels of the organization
  • MRP system experience and understanding
  • Microsoft Office suite capability
  • Engineering drawing software experience a plus
  • General understanding of PLC systems
  • Understanding and knowledge of mechanical drive systems, pneumatic systems, and hydraulic systems
