Technical Leader

The Technical Leader is accountable to ensure that a quality product is being manufactured to meet or exceed our customer expectations. The Technical Leader establishes and maintains accurate process recipes for operations to safely, accurately, and efficiently produce products that consistently meet codes, specifications, and customer requirements at the lowest cost; Will be accountable for reaching annual net efficiency targets and reducing cost to achieve plan.
Reports to: Plant Leader
Span of Control: 7 direct reports (Technical team)
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Safety First
- Champion a safe work environment and set the example by living the OC safety values. Ensure a clean and environmentally compliant work environment and build a culture where safety is a first priority.
- Act as an agent for positive change, continually raising the bar with the objective of attaining exceeding benchmarks.
- Setting the example of OC values for peers, supervisors, and subordinates.
Know our Customers
- Identify, understand, and teach others the critical product characteristics required to provide our customers with a quality product.
- Develop and implement procedures and systems to ensure products consistently meet or exceed customer expectations.
- Ensure that all control plans, work instructions, processes, and other procedures related to the technical operations of the plant meet or exceed customer expectations.
- Support experiments or trials for new and existing products to ensure they meet our customer fitness for use.
- Customer complaint participation, including root cause analysis and problem resolution. Visiting customers as possible to assist in voice of customer efforts.
Direct Operations
- Provide leadership to Technical, Quality, Alloy, and Process parts teams and coordinate efforts of those departments.
- Accountable, in conjunction with Operations and Maintenance colleagues, for delivering day by day, required operational efficiencies to deliver business plan
- Conduct regular process audits and lead Continuous Improvement through the Focused Improvement pillar
- Manage escalations and implement sustainable corrective actions to control variables
- Determine process consistency and capability (Cpk). Reduce and control process variability.
- Develop and implement Quality Control Plans to ensure that all products meet specifications at the lowest cost.
- Conduct process audits, including Layered Process Audits (LPAs), and implement corrective actions to ensure product consistency and maximum volume.
- Identify and eliminate special causes of product and process variation (troubleshooting).
- Analyze product and process data, providing feedback and making recommendations to optimize performance.
- Network with other plants and the Science & Technology Center (S&T) to identify and implement best practices.
- Identify and implement process improvements. Improvements may originate from S&T or other facilities.
- Implement corrective actions for issues surfaced through quality complaints and hold tags.
- Coach, counsel, and train all employees on FI and process control.
- Create, and document process settings and work instructions.
- Define required maintenance actions to resolve equipment issues.
- Identify and correcting repetitive equipment failures and working with Maintenance to identify and implement solutions.
- Identify, capex opportunities and request capital funding for equipment, modifications, etc.
- Define and track measures of success.
Leading and Developing Talent
- Lead and develop the skills of Process Engineers.
- Lead the manufacturing process.
- Train employees in process control procedures.
- Work with employees to develop and implement Operator Control Plans.
- Partner with and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) to develop and implement TPM plans for equipment to ensure employee understanding and ownership.
- Leading FI pillar and coach others on FI tools
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Job Requirements:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience within a manufacturing or technical environment
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Materials Science emphasis
- Master's degree preferred
- Experience working in a non-union operations is a plus
- Six Sigma Black Belt preferred
- Certified Quality Engineer preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Understands both internal and external customer needs, product specifications, basic cost drivers and the Critical Process Variables (CPVs) that impact these elements.
- Understands and works with basic principles of engineering.
- Understands Six Sigma concepts including statistics, trial design, data analysis and control charting.
- Understands basic elements of producing fiberglass including raw materials, processes and control systems.
- Ability to communicate with and engage employees at all levels of the organization.
- Strong background in Statistical Process Control techniques.
- Ability to analyze and use data to drive process improvements.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities or projects at one time.
- Lean Certification or evidence of Lean Manufacturing/TPM experience
- Knowledge and experience with design of experiments.
