Machine Operator

Prepares, operates and adjusts wool machine according to production schedule and supervision. Responsible for the accomplishment of the work performed by assigned personnel under the direction and authority of supervision.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Leads, assists and performs the duties of the Tar & Paper Attendant and the machine area related duties of the Machine Attendant under the direction and authority of supervision.
- Operates and adjusts the setting of equipment (including but not limited to, forming chains, ovens, trim disposal system, bisect saws, choppers, bridge, etc.).
- Operates OnSpec, MeasureX, and IPOP systems. Monitors computer panels, performs related recordkeeping and makes required computations and adjustments (including, but not limited to, pounds pulled per minute, line speed, density, L.O.I., oven settings, etc.).
- Makes job changes; controls line speed; checks and adjusts wool machine equipment (including but not limited to, conveyors, slitters, lane guides, etc.).
- Cooperates with the Forehearth and Packing personnel with schedules and any problems which could affect the production of quality material.
- Checks production schedules and job instruction sheets to determine requirements; insures procurement of direct materials.
- Monitors oven operation (including, but not limited to, checks zone settings, extinguishes oven fires, lights oven zone burners, checks fan speeds, etc.).
- Notifies the appropriate personnel of any equipment or quality problem, ensures work notifications are completed and takes corrective action within the scope of the job.
- Uses process, technical, and quality control data to ensure product meets specifications (including, but not limited to, uniform density, thermal conductivity, strength, etc.) and notifies appropriate personnel of out of spec materials.
- Visually inspects, performs quality checks and rechecks (including but not limited to, length, width, thickness, density, cut, etc.).
- Completes records and reports (i.e., Machine Tender’s Audit Report, etc.).
- Monitors environmental control systems and completes required reports.
- Participates in the safety, communication, continuous improvement, and good housekeeping programs as established within the plant.
- Leads and assists with oven clean outs, and other downtimes.
- Performs other related duties consistent with the nature of the job as directed by supervisor.

The employee should hold the following abilities:
- Understand the plant safety guidelines and pass all required safety training.
- Know and understand how to operate assigned forming equipment.
- Be able to read and understand SAP.
- Be able to operate assigned computer systems.
- Be able to recognize and determine good quality material.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English
- Must be able to understand verbal and written instructions
- Must possess strong communication and organizational skills
- Must have the ability to multi-task
- Must have strong internal and external customer service skills
- Must work well in team environment
- Must be able to work independently
- Must be able to secure and maintain forklift driver’s license
- Must have to ability to do basic mathematical calculations
COMPUTER AND SOFTWARE COMPENTENCIES
The employee must be able to:
- Operate a computer or other keyboard instrument
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
The employee should have the following:
- Minimum high school diploma or equivalent is required
- Related experience and/or training in an industrial environment
- Proof of legal authorization to work in the United States
- Must be 18 years or older
- Must be drug and alcohol free
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
The employee should possess the ability to:
- Regular attendance on site and the ability to work varying or rotating shifts
- Wearing respirator protection - occasionally
- Exposure to hot/cold temperature- continuously
- Exposure to noise- continuously
- Lifting/carrying/moving up to 50 pounds
- Standing- frequently
- Ascending/descending stairs - occasionally
