Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Performs all functions of the job in a safe manner and promptly reports any unsafe behaviors to the shift supervisor.
  2. Understands how to safely and skillfully operate portable power tools and hand tools required for routine maintenance work.
  3. Work alone or assist maintenance personnel of higher classification in the disassembly of various types of plant machinery.  Work may require the making of replacement parts, re-assemblies, fitting, aligning and adjustments to any plant equipment.
  4. Have the ability to inspect equipment for defective parts and wear or any unsatisfactory conditions.  Have the verbal or written skills to report equipment conditions to a supervisor ini an effort to advance the preventive maintenance program.
  5. Understands load limitations and safe operation of mobile and hoisting equipment.
  6. Understand the basic procedures for safe rigging and lifting.  Can execute rigging and lifting operations without supervision.
  7. Assists in record keeping including inventory of operation supplies, spare parts, and equipment spares and their locations.
  8. Develop safe working practices to ensure the safety of all employees.
  9. Report hazardous conditions.
  10. Understands safe/proper setup for cutting welding machines. Can perform routine acetylene cutting and welding without supervision.
  11. Understands basics of precision alignment. Can execute alignment procedures on basic systems including belt and chain drive systems without supervision.
  12. Understands basics of bearing lubrication and installation.  Can install interference fit and clearance fit bearings within tolerance without supervision.
  13. Understands all regulations for safety harness protection.
  14. Understands lock out/tag out procedures for energy sources.  Can identify energy sources for each machine and correctly de-energize machine for maintenance procedures.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

The employee should hold the following abilities:

  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English
  • Must be able to understand verbal and written instructions
  • Must possess strong communication and organizational skills
  • Must have the ability to multi-task
  • Must have strong internal and external customer service skills
  • Must work well in team environment
  • Must have the ability to do basic mathematical calculations
  • Must have a minimum of 1 year of industrial mechanic maintenance experience.
  • Must be available for off shift call duty on a scheduled basis.
  • Must be certifiable within 90-day probationary period.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot controls related systems using controls PC software.
  • Must learn new controls technologies and systems as required through out plant.

COMPUTER AND SOFTWARE COMPENTENCIES

The employee must be able to:

    • Log on to company computer system
    • Check e-mail
    • Create, reply to e-mail

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

The employee should have the following:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

The employee should possess the ability to:

  • Must be qualifiable for respirator use
  • Work for 12 hours in extreme hot/cold manufacturing environment
  • Walk/stand continuously for up to 12 hours
  • Ability to safely bend, twist, and squat
  • Routinely ascend and descend stairs and ladders as work area requires
  • Adapt to rotating shift work
  • Pass pre-employment drug screening, background check, and health screen
